Book Review: ``You Can, You Will´´by Joel Osteen
As reading has been my favourite pastime, I am spending my time on reading during my voluntary home quarantine. One the day 3, I read a book named “You Can, You Will” by Joel Osteen who is a New York Times best-selling author. In the book, he mentions eight undeniable qualities of winners.
The first quality is “Keep Your Vision in Front of You.” The key message is that we may not be reaching our goals not because we don't have the faith, the talent, or the determination, but because we are not keeping the right things in front of us. All over our house, we should have pictures that inspire us and quotations that encourage us. Because, we move toward what we constantly see.
The second is “Run Your Race.” Most of us tend to spend too much time on trying to impress others. In fact, it is not a good idea to be held back by the fear of others' disapproval when we do not fit their mould. We should keep believing in our dreams and doing our best. We should not let the negative voices of others stop us pursuing our goals.
The third quality of winners is “Expect Good Things.” Sometimes, we are unconsciously looking for bad things such as difficulties and failures. Such unpleasant thoughts make us feel depressed, discouraged and less confident. Thus, instead of being overwhelmed by negative anticipations, we need to talk to ourselves that something better is coming. Such good expectations help us perform better and reach our goals.
The fourth is “Have a Positive Mindset.” If we stay focused on problems, and think how impossible our dreams look, we are less likely to reach our potential, and we may even go backwards. So, rather than complaining of what we don't have, we should improvise what we have in order to move forward and achieve our goals.
The fifth quality of winners is “Commit to Excellence.” The striking message given by the author is that while others are doing as little as they can, winners perform more than expected by throwing themselves heart and soul.
The sixth is “Keep Growing.” A quote that caught my attention in this part is “Winners Never Stop Learning.” In essence, even when we have reached our goals, we should set new goals, and keep learning new things.
The seventh quality is “Serve Others.” It is not enough to focus only on ourselves if we want to sustain our success. We also need to volunteer in our society and help those who need our help. In short, while we are enriching our lives, we should also make the lives of others better.
The eighth quality of winners is “Stay Passionate.” Here, the significant message is that it is important to hold onto our enthusiasm if we want to achieve one victory after another.
I believe if we want to become winners, it is important to know and adopt the attitudes and habits of winners. For me, this book is inspiring and insightful, and the messages are noteworthy. Although there are some points in the book that do not go along with my opinion, I'd say this book is fantastic and worth reading overall.
